1967, the year that...

 

  • Elvis Presley married Priscilla.

 

  • Classic game Kerplunk was first released! The idea was to remove sticks from a plastic tube without dislodging the marbles on top – it remains popular today.

 

  • Sesame Street burst onto our screens, transforming colourful characters like Kermit the Frog, Cookie Monster and Big Bird into international superstars!

 

  • The UK Frisbee craze went sky-high! It is generally agreed that this mad-cap toy was developed from a pie container in the US.

 

  • Jelly Tots the delicious chewy, fruity sweets were launched and became an instant kids favourite.

 

  • Paisley print and paper clothes were the fashion statements to be seen in!

 

 

  • The Monkees became a phenomenon in the UK with their transatlantic super-hit ‘I’m a Believer.’ Member Mike Nesmith has since been credited with inventing MTV!

 

 

  • Cult show The Prisoner, was topping the TV charts. Its star Patrick McGoohan found himself stranded on a bizarre island from which he could not escape.

 

  • The words ‘bell bottom’ were introduced in to the dictionary.

 

  • Trumpton – narrated by Brian Cant, was the big kids TV hit of the moment – it followed the antics of the residents of Trumptonshire, particularly the fire brigade. Anyone remember the catchphrase ‘Pugh! Pugh! Barney McGrew! Cuthbert! Dibble! Grubb!’?

 

  • Dustin Hoffman became the envy of teens across the land, when he was seduced by Anne Bancroft in cult film, The Graduate. This has more recently been transformed into a successful stage production.

 

 

  • Thousands of people joined together in California to protest against American involvement in the Vietnam War.

 

  • Angel Delight was launched. People everywhere were amazed at its ability to transform from a powder into a yummy dessert!
