A Beautiful Friendship

In August, Fenjal Classic asked you to nominate an awe- inspiring friend. Here’s your winner...

 

I’ve never met a more fantastic, courageous woman than Lesley. When she rang to tell me that her baby had been born prematurely, I dropped everything and rushed to be by her side in hospital. She was terribly low, as the doctors had told her that her baby was too tiny to survive, and I felt very protective of her it was the first time I’d seen her cry. I gave her a hug and held her hand tightly. When the time came to disconnect him from the life support machine, she said, “Will you stay with me?” I sat by her side while she held her baby for the last time. It was heart-wrenching. Afterwards, Lesley, understandably, found it extremely difficult to organise the funeral, so I supported her through that. But despite her own personal tragedies, Lesley always puts others first.’

 

By being there for Lesley, Norma has helped Lesley to deal with her feelings of sadness and get her life on an even keel again. Lesley is filled with gratitude for her friend’s incredible actions and explains why she is such a deserving winner of the Fenjal Friendship Award: ‘Norma was a massive help at the time, and has been ever since,’ she says. ‘I was going through hard times and, as my siblings all live abroad, I didn’t have a family member to turn to. But Norma was like a sister to me I could pour my heart out to her and she just knew the right thing to say. I just feel so privileged to know Norma. She’s such a bubbly, positive person. When I’m feeling down, she always sends me flowers, candles and inspirational poems to keep my spirits up.’

 

Sharing their ups and downs has brought Lesley and Norma, who’ve known each other since school, even closer. And Norma is looking forward to enjoying her prize from Fenjal Classic of a pampering spa break at Ragdale Hall for two.

 

‘Friendship is about accepting someone for who they are, despite your differences, and going that extra mile to support them when
it really counts,’ says Norma. ‘If you have a really good friend, like Lesley, then they’ll be in your life forever. I’m going to take Lesley on the spa break with me as she hasn’t had a holiday in four years and someone as wonderful as her deserves a break. I think
we both need to recharge our batteries!’
